Frequently Asked Questions
Are Plugfones actual hearing protection or just earbuds with ANC?
Plugfones are earplugs that play audio. They rely on a physical seal with foam or silicone tips and are designed for noise reduction first, audio second. Consumer Active Noise Cancellation earbuds reduce perceived noise but aren’t a substitute for a proper earplug seal.
Are Plugfones® Approved for My Workplace?
Every workplace has its own set of regulations regarding personal protective equipment. Most facilities require hearing protection to meet a specific Noise Reduction Rating after evaluating environmental noise level.
In order to find out whether you can use Plugfones on the job, we recommend asking your supervisor or company safety official. When using Plugfones, please adhere to all rules established by your place of employment. If Plugfones products are not approved for general use at your workplace, speak with your company safety official and share our Safety page with them so they can make an informed decision.
Please contact us if you need more information to get Plugfones approved for your workplace.
Are Plugfones comfortable for all-day use?
They’re built for extended wear with soft, low-profile stems and lightweight cables/neckbands. Comfort depends on fit: the right tip size + proper insertion = less pressure and better all-day feel.
Can I take calls with Plugfones in?
Yes. Plugfones Bluetooth and many wired models include an in-line mic and controls so you can answer, pause, and adjust volume without removing your ear protection.
Be sure to check that the model you’re using has a mic included as some models are for music only.
Do Plugfones® Come With a Warranty?
Wired Plugfones come standard with a 90-day no hassle warranty. Wireless Bluetooth® Plugfones come standard with a 180-day no hassle warranty.

How Do I Insert My Plugfones?
ComforTwist™ Foam Plugs
Before inserting the foam plug into your ear, first compress the tip by rolling it lengthwise with your thumb and forefinger. Then, while reaching over your head and pulling up on the top of your ear with one hand, use the other to gently push and twist the plug into your ear canal. Hold the plug in place until you feel the foam expand, creating the SoundSeal™.
ComforTiered™ Silicone Plugs
To insert the silicone plug into your ear, reach over your head and pull up on the top of your ear with one hand while using the other to gently push the plug into your ear canal. Ensure the plug fits snugly in order to create the SoundSeal™.
ComforTiered™ Foam Plugs
Before inserting the foam plug into your ear, first compress the tip by rolling it lengthwise with your thumb and forefinger. Then, while reaching over your head and pulling up on the top of your ear with one hand, use the other to gently push and twist the plug into your ear canal. Hold the plug in place until you feel the foam expand, creating the SoundSeal™.
Do a quick seal check: rub fingers near your ear—if the sound is faint, your seal is good.

What ear tips come with Plugfones and how do I choose the right size?
Most Plugfones include foam and silicone tips in multiple sizes so you can dial in the seal. Start with foam (best for consistent reduction); if you need frequent on/off, try silicone. If the tip isn’t comfortable or loosens during wear, size up or down.
What is a Noise Reduction Rating (NRR)?
An official Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) is a certification of the number of decibels a noise level can be reduced by the proper application of the device or item being tested. This rating is provided so that the consumer can choose a device that will help prevent hearing loss given their normal activities and usage.

What is the battery life on Plugfones Bluetooth models?
Varies by model; aim for shift-length runtime on a single charge. Quick top-offs via USB between tasks keep you covered. (Add your specific hours in the PDP.)
When Should I Replace My Plugs?
If you notice any tears or rips in your plugs, if they have become hard or stiff, or you notice discomfort while inserting them in your ear it is time to replace them.
Foam Plugs:
A good foam plug is soft, squishes to the touch and easily conforms to the shape of the ear canal. When foam plugs harden or stiffen they no longer shape to your ear canal and no longer offer protection. They may also cause discomfort or pain upon insertion into the ear.
Silicone Plugs:
A good silicone plug has smooth pliable layers that help it slide easily into the ear canal. When a silicone plug stiffens and is no longer pliable it will not slide easily into the ear and may cause discomfort or pain upon insertion.
Where can I get replacement tips and accessories?

-
Wired: zero charging, rugged for long shifts and harsh environments.
-
Bluetooth: cord-free movement, in-line controls and mic for calls.
Choose based on how you work: all-day durability vs. cable-free convenience.
Why Should I Keep My Plugs Clean?
Over time you may notice a build up of earwax, dirt or grime on your silicone or foam plugs. The longer this grime remains on the plugs the more likely they will harden, stiffen or deteriorate. This could lead to the plugs tearing or needing to be replaced. It is always a good idea to keep your plugs clean and in good condition.
