Why Should I Keep My Plugs Clean?
Over time you may notice a build up of earwax, dirt or grime on your silicone or foam plugs. The longer this grime remains on the plugs the more likely they will harden, stiffen or deteriorate. This could lead to the plugs tearing or needing to be replaced. It is always a good idea to keep your plugs clean and in good condition.

How Do I Clean My Plugs?
- Remove your plugs from your Plugfones device.
- Use a damp cloth to gently wipe the exterior of the plug to clean the surface.
- For silicone plugs be sure to also gently wipe the top and underside of each layer to remove additional grime.
- Check the opening at the tip of the plug and make sure it’s not obstructed by earwax or other debris. Remove any obstructions.
- Make sure the plug is completely dry before you using it with your Plugfones.
NOTE: While cleaning take care not to tear the foam or silicone layers of the plug.
WARNING: Do not submerge the plugs in water while attached to a Plugfones device.

When Should I Replace My Plugs?
If you notice any tears or rips in your plugs, if they have become hard or stiff, or you notice discomfort while inserting them in your ear it is time to replace them.
Foam Plugs:
A good foam plug is soft, squishes to the touch and easily conforms to the shape of the ear canal. When foam plugs harden or stiffen they no longer shape to your ear canal and no longer offer protection. They may also cause discomfort or pain upon insertion into the ear.
Silicone Plugs:
A good silicone plug has smooth pliable layers that help it slide easily into the ear canal. When a silicone plug stiffens and is no longer pliable it will not slide easily into the ear and may cause discomfort or pain upon insertion.

What is a Noise Reduction Rating (NRR)?
An official Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) is a certification of the number of decibels a noise level can be reduced by the proper application of the device or item being tested. This rating is provided so that the consumer can choose a device that will help prevent hearing loss given their normal activities and usage.
