Plugfones has pioneered the Earplugs with Audio lane since the brand introduction 10 years ago. In the late 2000s, we recognized a great need in many workplaces—people were required to wear hearing protection but wanted to listen to music at the same time. That’s why we created Plugfones. We’ve combined comfortable, noise-reducing earplugs with high-quality audio speakers. The resulting hybrid provides the ultimate hearing protection + listening experience on the market.
At Plugfones, we believe that work should be enjoyed – so we created an earplug-earbud product to help you do exactly that. Our unique earplug tips surpass the quality of traditional earplugs and fit securely in your ear without falling out. Unlike traditional earplugs, Plugfones allow you to hear outside low-level noises while listening to music, audiobooks, or podcasts. Our process has been ongoing and as time goes on and new need arises, we aim to deliver.. here are the key aspects we focus on.
1. Disrupting the traditional earplug market
At the beginning of all of this, there were no options to protect your hearing while consuming media or listening to music. And as you may know.. 10-12 hour shifts can get pretty long and tedious. We knew there needed to be something that met OSHA standard and could even surpass traditional earplugs in NRR (Noise Reduction Rating) while also giving you the means to listen to quality audio. The goal behind this was firstly, protect your hearing, but secondly to make the day better. We aim to improve your quality of living by making the workplace a much more enjoyable experience. In doing this, workplace morale, overall enjoyment, and productivity could increase.
2. Create more comfortable and better protecting earplugs
We didn’t just want to mimic the market in terms of protection, we wanted to dominate it. Traditional plugs can become bothersome and uncomfortable after extended use and typical NRR rating ranges from low to mid twenties. Our patented ComforTiered™ foam plugs, when used properly, lead the market with a 29 NRR while our silicone plugs come rated at 27 which falls into the high-end range for most conventional earplugs on the market.
3. Combine high quality plugs with high quality audio
The bar for quality sound and audio is very high. Our higher end models come with factory tuned speakers as well as some models that are offered in volume-limited (VL) for those environments that have OSHA standards for how loud audio can be on the job. We needed to address and consider work environments in a way that allowed people the freedom to have that high quality audio while still staying compliant with work and safety standards.
